Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Here are the answers for your questions or you may contact us for further information.

What is SARS-CoV-2 and COVID-19?

COVID-19 (Coronavirus disease 2019) is an acute resolved disease but it can also be deadly, with a 2% case fatality rate. The causative agent is called SARS-CoV-2. Since late December, 2019, it caused an outbreak of a novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19; previously known as 2019-nCoV), which has subsequently affected over 114 countries and regions worldwide. Severe disease onset might result in death due to massive alveolar damage and progressive respiratory failure. The pathogen has since been identified as a zoonotic coronavirus, similar to SARS coronavirus and MERS coronavirus, and has been named as severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). The 2019 novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) epidemic has been declared a public health emergency of international concern by the World Health Organization, may progress to a pandemic associated with substantial morbidity and mortality. SARS-CoV-2 is genetically related to SARS-CoV, which caused a global epidemic with 8096 confirmed cases in more than 25 countries in 2002–2003.

The Artron COVID-19 antibody rapid test kit is made in which country?

Canada.

What does Artron COVID-19 antibody rapid test kit need for testing?

A prick of blood sample (only about 10 µL of whole blood), serum, plasma or whole blood.

How long do the antibody test take?

It takes around 5 minutes for preparation and you will be able to read your result in 15-30 mins.

What is the principle for the test?

Antibodies will be produced by white blood cells after foreigners (in this case, SARS-CoV-2 which causes COVID-19) invade into our body. To attack the foreigners, IgM comes out first, becoming the early sign of infection. IgG comes out later, arising a more specific and stronger reaction against the foreigners. They can be detected in your blood as early as one week (3-5 days) after infection.

I have received the kit. What should I do next?

You may follow COVID-19 Rapid Test Kit’s test instructions to conduct test or contact your healthcare provider to know what to do next.

What if my results are positive?

If you are tested positive:

  • It means that you have antibodies that likely resulted from an infection with SARS-CoV-2.
  • It’s not clear if those antibodies can provide protection (immunity) against getting infected again at this time.
  • If you do not have symptoms, you are not likely to have an active infection and no additional follow-up is needed.
  • If you have symptoms and meet the guidelines for testing, you would need another type of test called RT-PCR for confirmation.
  • It’s possible for you to have the antibodies and you might not have or have ever had symptoms of COVID-19. This is known as asymptomatic infection (an infection without symptoms).

What if my results are negative?

If you test negative:

  • It means that you probably did not have a previous infection.
  • You could still have a current infection and it’s possible for you to get sick if you have been exposed to the virus recently.
  • Some people may take longer time to develop antibodies against the virus.
  • If you have symptoms and meet the guidelines for testing, you would need another type of test called RT-PCR for confirmation.

What if my result is invalid?

If your result is invalid, you will be required to repeat with a new test device.

Is it a diagnostic test?

No. This test provides only a preliminary test result and should not be used to diagnose acute SARSCoV-2 infection.

What the test is detecting?

The results are for the detection of antibodies produced against SARS-CoV-2. The antibodies, IgM and IgG, are generally detectable in blood several days after initial infection. Although the duration of antibodies post-infection is not well characterized, individuals may have detectable virus present for several weeks following seroconversion.

I’m an employer and would like to screen my staffs. What should I do?

We do offer screening tests for your workers and it depends on the location and number of your staffs you have. Please contact us for further information.

Is the test kit accredited?

Currently the test kit has CE mark, MDSAP, MedNet EC-REP and ISO13485:2016.
